The name Southwest Nationalpark describes where it is situated. It is one of the world's most unspoiled
natural areas. Therefore this part of Tasmania is often simply called South West Wildernis. It is
Australia's largest nationalpark and habitat of unique pine and eucalypt forests. In addition there are about
300 species of lichens, mosses and ferns. The most famous walking track which takes about ten days is
called South Coast Track leading pass Port Davey to Cockle Creek. You can be dropped by helicopter
within the nationalpark. Lake Pedder which was flooded in order to use a power station at the Gordon
Dam is too part of the nationalpark. |
