Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair Nationalpark might be Tasmania's most famous
nationalpark. It is part of the world heritage and stretches over 1262 square kilometers.
The nationalpark is named after Cradle Mountain with its two summits which is the
second highest mountain of Tasmania after Mt Ossa. Precipitous rocks, deep gorges,
many lakes and big moorland areas are the main features. One of the nicest walking
tracks leads around Dove Lake within about two hours. The most famous walk is
called Overland Track and is more than 80 kilometers long. It connects Cradle
Mountain and Lake St Clair which is Australia's deepest fresh water lake. It takes about
five or six days to do the whole Overland Track and it is possible to manage it in both
directions. |
