La Seu Cathedral
La Seu Cathedral on the right is the eye-catcher of the island's capital Palma.
It reminds of Majorca's importance during medieval times of merchant shipping.
King Jaume I. laid the foundation stone in 1230 after the Christians' victory over
the Islam. In 1587 the cathedral was consecrated. Remarkable are the dimension
of the nave as well as the mighty rosette of eleven meters in diameter.
In the morning hours the sun is shining through the window producing a colourful
scenery. Rosettes are generally a famous style element of Majorcan architects.
On the left you see the Palau de Almudaina which is the King's residence these days
and which is as well used by the army.
